Greetings from the Orient

House of the Book presents the exhibition 'Greetings from the Orient'. Six rooms full of books, film posters, arts and crafts, picture postcards and quotes from travelers and writers offer a glimpse into the origins of Western images of the Eastern world.

The visitor walks through various themes, starting with travel books from the 17th century and Biblical orientalism. Tourism to the promised land begins in the mid-19th century. Many travelers look for the true setting of the Bible. Then the fairytale world comes true One Thousand and One Nights offer. The image of the East varies from the cradle of Christian culture to fairytale, barbaric and sensual. The view is colored by prejudices and interests. The ideas have often been alive in Western culture for centuries and still influence current images.

In addition to manufacturing all interior elements, Kloosterboer also supplied and installed the AV.
