The Copenhagen Trilogy – ITA

For The Copenhagen Trilogy by International Theatre Amsterdam, Kloosterboer realized the set construction based on a design by Pascal Leboucq. The production, directed by Eline Arbo and featuring Maria Kraakman among others, brings together the autobiographical novels Childhood, Youth, and Dependence by Danish author Tove Ditlevsen. A story about womanhood, artistry, love, and self-destruction.

The set consists of thick sheets of latex with casts of interiors from Ditlevsen's memories: wooden window frames, gas heaters, wall tiles, and mantelpieces. The translucent, elastic rubber is sometimes reminiscent of pale human skin. The print and lighting give the set a changing character: warm and nostalgic in one light, neglected and ominous in another. The sheets hang from the grid and can be pulled up but also pushed aside by the players. In this way, the toughness, the slow movement, and the weight of the material become part of the game.

The production premiered on October 20, 2026, at the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam.
