Hektjalk in the Marker harbour
From March 29, 2025, there's even more to see and do at the Zuiderzee Museum's Marker harbor. Traditionally, the harbor was the place where it all happened: ships came and went, and goods were loaded and unloaded.
In the Marker harbor, the hektjalk "De Vier Gebroeders" (The Four Brothers) is the museum's largest ship, having just sailed in with a load of potatoes. It's 1920, and the skipper's wife, Willempje van de Breevaart, is happy to tell you all about life aboard this freighter. In the hold, you'll delve deeper into the world of the skipper, some of the children, and the crew member as they go about their duties.
Kloosterboer oversaw the construction of the exhibition around the hektjalk, including the integration of audiovisual elements that bring the story to life.
