'The building'
The opening exhibition, "Mauritshuis The Building," looks back at the rich history and illustrious residents and occupants of the building that has stood as an icon of The Hague on the Hofvijver since 1644. The Mauritshuis is one of the most famous classical buildings in the Netherlands. Along with the Royal Palace on Dam Square, it is one of the most important building projects by Jacob van Campen, a leading architect of his time.
The thematic presentation highlights the many facets of the Mauritshuis. Drawings, paintings, and prints tell the story of the building's development, the fire in 1704, the first museum installation from 1822, and the current construction project that is preparing the museum for the 21st century.
