Queens of the Nile
The Queens of the Nile exhibition tells the remarkable story of the wives of the Egyptian pharaohs. You'll see over three hundred and fifty masterpieces, including rare statues, exquisite jewelry, luxury objects, and unique artifacts from the tomb of the famous Queen Nefertari, including her sarcophagus lid. The majority of the objects come from the collection of the Museo Egizio in Turin, the second-largest Egyptian museum in the world.
The exhibition focuses specifically on the queens of the period 1500-1000 BC, known as the "New Kingdom." Ancient Egypt reached the height of its power during this period. Pharaohs were lords and masters and worshipped as gods, but their queens also held regal and divine status.
