The Discovery of Heaven
Building heaven is surely the ultimate achievement for a set designer. The set for the film "The Discovery of Heaven," based on the book of the same name by Harry Mulisch, was one of our most special projects. The depiction of heaven was based on sketches by Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720–1778).
The film was a British-Dutch co-production. The cast included Stephen Fry, Greg Wise, Ellen Vogel, and Marjolein Sligte. Jeroen Krabbé directed as well as acted, and Edwin de Vries wrote the screenplay. The film went Platinum, and Edwin de Vries received a Golden Calf for Best Screenplay of 2002.
