Replica Royal Carriage Sr1 – Railway Museum

For the Royal Class exhibition at the Railway Museum, we created a fully historically accurate replica of the Royal Carriage SR1: the salon carriage of Queen Mother Anna Paulowna, Queen of the Netherlands from 1840 to 1849.

In 1864, the Dutch Iron Railway Company (HSM) commissioned a special salon carriage to allow Anna Paulowna to travel comfortably between Soestdijk Palace and The Hague. The original carriage has been almost entirely destroyed over time, with only the toilet and sink remaining.

Using the still-available construction drawings, historical sources, and surviving components, we were able to create an authentic and accurate reconstruction. With the support of the BankGiro Lottery, this unique piece of railway history has been brought back to life.
