Museum Schokland
The new exhibition built by Kloosterboer at Museum Schokland was officially opened on March 28, 2018. Visitors will literally embark on a journey of discovery through the history of the Schokland region, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995.
Visitors will walk a timeline starting with its origins in the penultimate Ice Age, discovering 10,000 years of habitation, the harsh island life, and the struggle against the water. The presentation concludes with the moment when Schokland finally became an island on dry land after being drained.
In the interactive exhibits created by Kloosterboer, children can become archaeologists and consider how they can hold back rising waters. Take the unique interactive sandbox, for example. The colors represent a height map and change as mountains or holes are created. The water appears to flow where the ground subsides. Children can create the island, but also breach a dike and see where the water will flow.
