T-rex in Town & on Tour
For Naturalis, Kloosterboer handled the exhibition construction and logistical support surrounding the world-famous T. rex Trix. After the great success of the exhibition T. rex in Town In Leiden, the iconic dinosaur skeleton traveled through Europe and China starting in 2017.
A team from Kloosterboer supervised the setup and dismantling of the exhibition at various international locations. Specially custom-made transport crates were manufactured in our workshop for the safe transport of the 66-million-year-old skeleton.
During the tour, Trix could be seen in, among others:
- CosmoCaixa – Barcelona
- Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle – Paris
- Macau Science Center – Macau, China
- Salzburg, Lisbon and Glasgow
In Paris, the exhibition passed the one million visitor mark. In total, Trix attracted over 1.2 million visitors during its international tour.
In August 2019, Trix returned to Leiden, where the skeleton was given a permanent place of honor in the renovated Naturalis. In the hall Dinosaur time Since then, Trix has formed the central focus of the story about dinosaurs and their habitat.
The exceptionally complete skeleton was excavated in 2013 in Montana (USA) by a team led by Naturalis paleontologist Anne Schulp. Trix thereby became the first T. rex outside North America to be owned by a museum and is unique worldwide because the original skull is fully mounted on the skeleton.
