Update Airborne Experience
In 1944, Hartenstein served as headquarters for the British airborne troops. Heavy damage was sustained during the lost Battle of Arnhem. The last of the war damage was only repaired last year. The busy museum renovated its entire interior with an eye to the future, when there are no longer any people who experienced the war firsthand.
Kloosterboer, in collaboration with design agency Tinker Imagineers, was able to update the Airborne Experience.
In the underground Airborne Experience, visitors are guided step by step through the story of the Battle of Arnhem. They follow in the footsteps of a British paratrooper and embark on a mission. History comes to life through realistic reconstructions and life-size film clips. Images and sound completely envelop the experience. Suddenly, you find yourself amidst the fierce fighting in the streets of Arnhem in the 1940s. The sounds of a devastating war: gunshots, impacts, English cries, German orders, the fear of those in hiding.
The museum will reopen to visitors on June 1, 2020.
