Anatomical Theatre – Boerhaave Museum
The Anatomical Theatre at the Boerhaave Museum is the only one in the Netherlands. It is a replica of the theatre that opened in 1594 on Rapenburg in Leiden. Approximately twice a year, the municipality donated the bodies of hanged criminals to Leiden University. These were then dissected on the dissecting table.
The new presentation around the Anatomical Theatre features an impressive introductory film about the history of science and medicine. Through video mapping Images are projected onto the walls and ceiling of the Anatomical Theatre. In addition, display cases have been added around the Anatomical Theatre, forming a cabinet of curiosities with special pieces from the museum's collection.
