Death – Naturalis Biodiversity Center

For the renovated Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden, Kloosterboer was commissioned to develop and produce the "Death" gallery, in collaboration with the design agency Kossmann.dejong. In the "maze of death," visitors discover how death and life ultimately intersect. "Death" is a unique gallery, and not just for Naturalis, as no other natural history museum has a gallery dedicated to the theme of death.

Death is inextricably linked to life. It's a mysterious event in everyone's life; we don't know when it will arrive or what it means for us. That's why this room can't be explored all at once. It's a maze of curved walls, with unique, beautifully lit objects at various heights: high, low, and even in the ground. Every bend or alcove offers something new. The unique design and surprising objects keep you going, until you arrive at the center where death and life merge. The maze concludes with a panoramic film with a pithy conclusion: death brings life.

The Death Hall will be open to visitors from Saturday, August 31, 2019.
