Greetings from the Orient

The House of the Book presents the exhibition "Greetings from the Orient." Six rooms filled with books, film posters, crafts, postcards, and quotes from travelers and writers offer a glimpse into the development of Western perceptions of the Eastern world.

Visitors explore various themes, starting with 17th-century travel books and Biblical Orientalism. Tourism to the Promised Land began in the mid-19th century. Many travelers sought the true setting of the Bible. Then, the fairytale world unfolds. One Thousand and One Nights Imagery of the East ranges from the cradle of Christian culture to fairytale-like, barbaric, and sensual. This perspective is colored by prejudices and interests. These ideas have often been embedded in Western culture for centuries and continue to influence current perceptions.

In addition to manufacturing all the interior elements, Kloosterboer also supplied and installed the AV.
