University Museum Utrecht
UMU reopened in September 2023 with five brand-new exhibition galleries. This interactive and family-friendly setup playfully introduces visitors to science, from historical research to current topics.
In the "Look, We Animals" gallery, you'll encounter skeletons, skulls, and teeth from all sorts of animal species. "Discovering" shows how scientists study the human body with unique equipment. In "Collecting All People," you'll discover how Utrecht researchers study human behavior. In "Experimenting," you'll become both a test subject and a researcher. And in "Deep Investigation," you'll work with fossils, crystals, and corals.
You can also participate in various research activities: investigate whether a fossil is real, try the drop track or test whether you can wrap a present with one hand.
UMU is a family museum for curious people where wonder, discovery and action are central.
In collaboration with various partners, Kloosterboer realized the construction of the interior, mechanical exhibits, installation of audiovisual equipment, show control, lighting, and interactive elements for UMU.
The University Museum Utrecht (UMU) has been nominated for the European Museum of the Year Award 2025, a prestigious prize for museums with an innovative character. The winner will be announced on May 24 in Poland.
