Shoe Quarter

The Schoenenkwartier is located in the monumental Kropholler complex, located in the heart of Waalwijk, with contemporary architecture by Civic Architects. Spread over three floors, you will be immersed in the world of shoe design and production over the years, through objects, interactives and audiovisual presentations.

In the MAAKLAB you, as a visitor or designer, have the opportunity to experiment with innovative circular techniques and traditional crafts. It is a professional workshop equipped with equipment, materials, expertise and professional guidance, including from real shoemakers.

The museum facilities were designed by Tinker imagineers. Commissioned by and in collaboration with Tinker, Kloosterboer developed and produced the new presentations for the museum, including the audiovisual hardware and show control.

The museum has been nominated for the European Museum of the Year Awards 2024. The winners will be announced in Portugal in May 2024.
