Tank! Back to the future
In 1916, a tank was used for the first time on the battlefield of World War I. At the NMM, the 100th anniversary of the tank is being celebrated, and you can learn all about it.
Before the first tank was deployed on the battlefields of World War I, humans had been searching for centuries for the perfect machines to breach enemy lines. The exhibition "Tank! Back to the Future" shows how humanity has tried to capture the three most important aspects of the tank—firepower, mobility, and protection—in technical designs. With magnificent scale models of never-built tank designs, such as Leonardo da Vinci's wooden chariot, you'll gain a glimpse into the history of the future of the tank.
