The Grand Tour – Destination Italy
The Mauritshuis Museum presents Tthe Grand Tour – Destination ItalyThis exhibition takes visitors back to the 17th and 18th centuries, when young British aristocrats, after completing their education, embarked on multi-year educational journeys through Europe, with Italy as their ultimate destination.
Through masterpieces from famous British country houses like Burghley House, Holkham Hall, and Woburn Abbey, some of which are on display in the Netherlands for the first time, you'll relive the highlights of this remarkable period. Paintings, portraits, cityscapes, and classical sculptures showcase what travelers took home as souvenirs of the time.
Festively opened by director Martine Gosselink on September 18, 2024, and on display until January 4, 2026.
Kloosterboer is responsible for the exhibition construction, designed by Bureau Caspar Conijn & Roderik van der Weijden.
