The former Dutch colonies

The exhibition "The former Dutch colonies: from World War II to independence" offers a multifaceted view of the events and population groups during World War II in the former colonies: Indonesia, Suriname, and the six Dutch Caribbean islands.

Featuring over thirty personal stories, the exhibition at the Verzetsmuseum Amsterdam offers a new, more comprehensive look at this period in colonial history. Visitors will discover how Indonesia suffered under the Japanese occupation and how resistance against Japan and the Netherlands grew. It also highlights how Suriname and the Caribbean islands were crucial to the Allied war effort.

The exhibition concludes with the aftermath of the war, with stories about decolonization and the lasting impact of the colonial past to this day.

Based on a design by Studio Ilona Laurijsse, Kloosterboer produced the exhibition, including audiovisual hardware, projections, and show control/programming.
