FLUGT – Refugee Museum of Denmark

Queen Margrethe of Denmark opened "FLUGT," the Danish Refugee Museum. This new museum tells the story of generations of refugees who, for various reasons, were forced to flee their homeland.

FLUGT is located on the site of Denmark's largest World War II refugee camp, in the woods outside Oksbøl. The museum showcases the connection between Oksbøl's local history and the refugees of today. Designed by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, the impressive building is a curved, modern structure of wood and glass. The museum exhibition was designed by Tinker imagineers. The museum experience comprises several exhibition spaces and an outdoor area.

On behalf of and in collaboration with Tinker Imagineers, Kloosterboer developed, produced, and installed the new permanent museum exhibits for FLUGT.

The new museum gives a face and voice to refugees worldwide, telling their stories, emotions, and trials. The refugees' personal stories are brought to life with visual highlights, soundscapes, animations, interviews, and original film footage. After visiting the exhibition indoors, the experience continues outdoors. A model of the camp as it was at the time, built of colored concrete and carved corten steel, takes pride of place in the new outdoor area.

The current refugee theme created an extra strong connection during the development and construction process, with a respectful and meaningful end result.
