Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam
After a year and a half of renovations, the Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam is open to the public again. New is the Cape greenhouse, featuring the first and most extensive South African plant collection in the Netherlands.
The reopened Climate House is the heart of an impressive project that combines biodiversity, climate change, and sustainability. It features three climate zones: desert, tropics, and the South African Cape. Here, it becomes clear how plants adapt to extreme conditions.
The greenhouse has not only been visually renovated but also made more sustainable technically. Thanks to double glazing and a heat pipeline from the nearby H'Art Museum, the Hortus is now completely gas-free, a first among botanical gardens in the Netherlands.
With this new greenhouse, the Hortus demonstrates its commitment to being more than just a beautiful garden. The message to visitors is clear: plants can adapt, but only if we give them the space and time to do so.
The official opening will take place in September, but the renovated greenhouse is already open to the public.
Kloosterboer collaborated with us to create the interior design of the visitor route. From projection integration to audiovisual hardware, the focus is on a sense of wonder and awareness.
