Shoe Quarter

The Schoenenkwartier is housed in the monumental Kropholler complex, located in the heart of Waalwijk, featuring contemporary architecture by Civic Architects. Spread across three floors, visitors are immersed in the world of shoe design and production through the years, using objects, interactive displays, and audiovisual presentations.

At the MAAKLAB, visitors and designers alike have the opportunity to experiment with innovative circular techniques and traditional crafts. It's a professional workshop equipped with equipment, materials, expertise, and expert guidance, including guidance from certified shoemakers.

The museum's interiors were designed by Tinker Imagineers. Commissioned by and in collaboration with Tinker, Kloosterboer developed and produced the museum's new presentations, including the audiovisual hardware and show control.

The museum has been nominated for the European Museum of the Year Awards 2024. The winners will be announced in Portugal in May 2024.
